Yen shortage stymies Miyakojima City’s plan to build new libraryDate Posted: 2009-11-05 There’s only one catch to the whole deal, and that’s a lack of money. The library leaders had selected a location for a new library in Kamamamine Park in 2008, but a political change and new mayor Toshihiko Shimoji put an end to the plan. Now, with building costs on the rise, and the city having no money to purchase land, it looks like citizens are going to have to wait for a new library. The Okinawa Prefecture Library is slated to move into the same Miyakojima City area the library committee wanted for the new library. With no money to purchase land, it is now being decided to build a new library on city owned land in the park. Library patrons—students and everyday citizens—want more in way of a facility to study and enjoy books, but for now, city leaders say people will have to be content to use the old library for just a little bit longer.
