Minato Park Idyllic twilight locale for ocean tranquilityDate Posted: 2008-04-18 ![]() ![]() ![]() Located near Kadena Air Base, close to the Sunabe sea wall and Hamagawa Fishing Port, Minato Park is the perfect spot to sit and watch twilight settle upon Okinawa, with waters changing color, picturesque views of the sunset reflecting off the shimmering waves. Minato Park could be called a full service park; plenty of parking, rest room facilities, and lots of things for the kids to do. The playground is amply supplied with swings, slides, a sand box, seesaw and a jungle gym. On top of that, the spacious lounge has roof slender, benches, and a water supply. For adults, there’s a gate ball course, otherwise known as a croquet pitch. It’s a park filled with greenery. Trees offer plenty of shade for those warm days of summer, making it the perfect place for sitting, playing with kids and grandkids, and just plain ol’ relaxing. To reach Minato Park, exit Kadena Gate 1 and head south on Highway 58. Travelling south, look for the Chinese restaurant Toyo Hanten on the right. Turn right at the intersection by the restaurant, then follow the shoreline, turning left immediately after passing a sprawling Toyota used car lot. The park is just around the corner, next to the ocean. Parking is along the street between the park and the seawall.
